BackTHE 'STUFF' BEYOND GOOGLE: INFORMATION LITERACY IN A CORPORATE SETTING
Natalie McDonald1, Peter Keenan2
1 Australian Prudential Regulation Authority, Sydney, NSW
2 NSW Business Chamber, NSW
This paper gives a case study on how an information literacy program titled 'Beyond Google' was rolled out at the NSW Business Chamber. The program came up with a number of surprises including users perception of their effectiveness in searching the internet and their search strategies.
The results were outstanding - users became more effective in their search engine usage, they broadened their understanding of information sources in the Library and embraced the '10 minute rule'.
The feedback was so positive that the Library then attempted to roll out a commercial version of the program to NSW Business Chamber members. The final part of the case study outlines key learnings from this program.
