PRESENTATION A14
BackTHE LIBRARY'S SECOND LIFE
Janine Schmidt
Trenholme Director of Libraries, McGill University, Montreal, QC, Canada
Library clients today are producers as well as consumers of information. Learners and researchers are mobile and constantly communicating. Libraries are re-examining their goals, revising their aspirations, repositioning their service delivery, and revitalizing their products to respond to changing needs. Using Second Life as a metaphor, new directions for the future of libraries are examined, including digitization strategies, website construction and in particular the creation of a library presence on an information island in Second Life. This presentation will refer to the work being done at McGill University.
